Project Objectives & Goals

Empowering youth through place-based learning and traditional ecological knowledge.

1st Objective

Professional Development for Teachers

Equip K-12 educators with strategies for integrating culturally and linguistically sustaining practices into environmental science teaching.

2nd Objective

Curriculum Development

Create a robust, place-based, bilingual science curriculum centered on local ecological knowledge and pressing environmental issues for hands-on inquiry.

3rd Objective

Community Engagement Initiatives

Build strong partnerships with schools, community organizations, and stakeholders to co-develop programs and promote environmental stewardship.

4th Objective

SEMBRAR with Multilingual Youth

Engage multilingual students in project-based learning that connects scientific inquiry with community environmental issues and guides them toward potential STEM careers.

5th Objective

Create Books

Create books, such as comic books, to exchange between participating states, engaging the youth of this generation in more sustainable practices, while also being engaging.

SEMBRAR: Our Impact Thus Far

We are bridging the gap between generational wisdom and environmental science. From the panhandle of Florida to the heart of Mississippi, our place-based curriculum is already empowering communities to reclaim their ecological narratives.

Completed: Quincy, FL

We successfully launched our first workshop at UF in Quincy (Gadsden Co.), where we began gathering environmental knowledge from local elders and rural populations.

Coming Soon: Starkville, MS

The momentum continues! We are gearing up for two major workshops this April in Oktibbeha County, bringing our bilingual research and advocacy to the Starkville community.
